The council elections in May are about local issues, and putting the right people in place to do their best for our communities.

I grew up in the Highlands, moving to Dumbarton in 2014. I became passionate about both the incredibly rich history of the area, and its overlooked beauty.

I firmly believe that Dumbarton has great potential, and with the right development and improvements, can flourish again.

Many tourists pass through our towns every year, on their way North, yet sadly see little reason to visit us.

The proposed walkway between historic Dumbarton Castle and the High Street is an excellent first step in giving people cause to call in on their way.

A museum would further attract visitors, and I will work towards the long-term vision shared by my SNP colleagues in order to bring prosperity, businesses and retailers back to the area.

I have spoken to many people with mobility issues recently, and they have told me a programme of repair and improvements is urgently required to the town’s pavements and paths.

I will also do all I can to support the many EU citizens that have made West Dunbartonshire their home, and support my fellow SNP candidate Karen Conaghan’s involvement in WASPI’s campaign against the covert Tory changes to women’s pensionable age, which has caused misery to millions.

For a council in West Dunbartonshire that works effectively and efficiently with the Scottish Government to ensure that our needs are heard, please vote for Iain McLaren and Karen Conaghan on May 4.
