A student from Vale of Leven Academy has claimed an award for her creative comic artwork, beating out stiff competition from schools from across West Dunbartonshire.

S4 pupil Charli Dee Munley saw her work 'Is This Your Card?' claim the year group award at the Schools Comic Art competition, with the winning works decided by acclaimed comic book artist Frank Quitewly, who presented the winners with their awards.

Vale of Leven Academy was also recognised by having S1 student Blair Wallace and S4 Kathryn Larking receive commendations for their creative work.

Around thirty works depicting new and more famous comic characters - including those from the winning artists - went on display at the Garden Gallery at Clydebank Museum and Art Gallery on May 5 and will remain on show to the public until May 30.

Trish Robins, exhibition officer, said: “I would like to thank the pupils who took the time to participate and producing these excellent pieces of work. The stunning exhibition really brings to life our young people’s imagination and I’d encourage people to come along and enjoy the variety of pieces on display.”

Admission to the Garden Gallery is free of charge and is open from Monday to Saturday from 10am to 4.30pm.
