A GROUP of soulful singers from the Vale could win £50,000 after they struck a chord with legendary singer Chaka Khan during BBC One’s Pitch Battle.

The five-strong group, called Scot Soul, brought songstress Khan to her feet when they sang a rendition of her own song Ain’t Nobody.

Scot Soul, who describe themselves as from Loch Lomond, were up against barbershop quartet group Fly Boys, who took it in turns to perform Chaka’s iconic hits – with a place in the final up for grabs.

And, after dazzling the judging panel and millions of TV viewers across the UK, the group has now made it through to the live final – where they’ll get the chance to song alongside the American music icon.

Yesterday, the group spoke of their joy at making it all the way to the final.

A statement on their Facebook page said: “We have woke up with big smiles.

“We are so overwhelmed with all of our lovely messages and support from everyone.

“What an experience, so lucky to share the stage with so many talented singers.”

And their success has also been applauded by West Dunbartonshire Council.

They issued a statement which read: “Scot Soul have done it!

“After a pitch battle singing, Ain’t Nobody, the West Dunbartonshire group have won this week’s show.

“The five – Des, Louise, Natalie, Shirley and Jim – will now be singing with Chaka Khan in the final of the BBC1 show. Congratulations, Scots Soul.”

But during an instrumental break in the song, guest judge Chaka arose from her seat, with a mic in her hand, and she made her way to the stage where she joined in with Scot Soul.

That was the indication they had won Saturday night’s episode and they had made it through to the live final – where they could win £50,000.

Scot Soul will return to the Pitch Battle studio and will perform alongside Khan in the live final next month.

All the members of Scot Soul were solo performers in our own rights for many years but they decided to join forces and form a brand new vocal harmony group.

The quintet earlier told audiences they had never performed together in public prior to the show, even rehearsing in a garage.
