ONE of the singing stars of ScotSoul has told how he was more nervous about the band's homecoming show at the Denny Civic Theatre- than appearing on the BBC's live TV final of 'Pitch Battle.'

Des McFarlane, from Bonhill, who is part of the singing quintet that made the live television final back in July, admitted he had a few butterflies ahead of the band's first performance since appearing on TV.

ScotSoul, made up of Des and Louise McFarlane, James Smart, Natalie James, and Shirley McAlpine, finished third in the televised competition following a live studio performance with US musical icon, Chaka Khan.

Following their national popularity on the show, the quintet then took to the Dumbarton Denny Civic Theatre, in Dumbarton to perform their most memorable hits from the show including Marvin Gaye’s “Let’s Get It On”, “Grace Kelly” and “I’m Every Woman”, which was performed along side Chaka Khan in the BBC live final.

But Des admitted he was bag of nerves with their hometown show.

He told The Reporter: "It was brilliant and we loved every minute of it because in the crowd were all our friends and family but I was more nervous about performing in front of them than I was during the 'Pitch Battle' live final!

"It all went well, though, and we got a great reception.

"We played two nights and the crowd were tremendous. It was a real homecoming and everyone was there to support us, although I was a bag of nerves to start with!"

Sadly, the BBC announced last week that 'Pitch Battle' won't be back for a second run.

But Des reckons it was a great platform for talented bands, such as ScotSoul.

He said: "I only heard about the news on Thursday and it's sad because it was a great platform for artists and musicians to showcase what they can do.

"And it's been great for us, it's helped us raise our profile. We are now heading onwards and upwards."
