A Tullichewan thug who hit a man on the head with a pot has been sentenced to 13 months in prison.

Martin Hall, 29, of McColl Avenue, had previously admitted carrying out the vicious assault on Cullen Street, Alexandria, on May 31, 2015.

At a sentencing hearing at Dumbarton Sheriff Court on Friday, Hall’s defence lawyer Lauren Kerr said her client had been under the influence of alcohol at the time of the attack.

She said her client had ongoing issues with drink, drugs and his mental health.

The lawyer said: “He realises he should not have acted in this way.

“He is currently serving a sentence for a breach of a community payback order.

“He very much appreciates he will be receiving a custodial sentence in respect of this matter.

“He is under no illusion it is serious offence.”

Sheriff Simon Pender told Hall: “I have taken account of all that has been said on your behalf and the steps you have taken while in custody with regards to your alcohol and drugs issues.

“You have a bad record.”

Hall was jailed for 13 months, the sentence to be served consecutive to his present eight month sentence for breaching the community payback order.
