A HUB to provide support to new pupils at Our Lady and St Patrick’s High School has helped one family avoid the threat of eviction, councillors have heard.

Julie McGrogan, senior education officer at West Dunbartonshire Council, told last week’s educational services committee the hub – which incorporates teaching staff with a number of council partners, such as counselling and family outreach workers – has been of huge benefit to pupils. And for one Dumbarton family, it has been of vital importance.

Ms McGrogan told how a primary teacher recommended the hub to a pupil starting OLSP.

The pupil’s parent later called to thank the school for their recommendation as as a result of the hub’s work, the family sorted their housing issues and were able to keep their home.

The service, which is also available to Clydebank High pupils, works with parents and children as they make the transition from primary to secondary school.

Ms McGrogan said: “We’re increasing regularly the number of parents we’re working with.”
