A MAN has been banned from driving for three years for a series of road crimes on one day.

John Kenney, of Crosslet Road, Dumbarton, had been disqualified in May 2016 for 15 months but on July 3, 2017, he drove with three times the legal limit of alcohol in his blood.

And on the A82 Dumbarton Road at Bowling, Dunglass Roundabout, Dumbuie Avenue, and Crosslet Road he drove at excessive speeds, drove on the wrong side of the road towards a marked police vehicle and tailgated other motorists forcing them to change lanes.

Kenney’s car collided with a traffic police vehicle near his home after a high-speed pursuit which began on the westbound M8 and continued over the Erskine Bridge and along the A82.

After the collision, Kenney tried to drive on to the pavement before officers forcibly removed him from the vehicle and arrested him.

A sample showed Kenney, 54, had 156 microgrammes of alcohol in 100ml of blood when he was stopped in Crosslet Road – more than treble the 50-microgramme limit.

As well as being disqualified at the time of the incident, Kenney had no insurance.

Defence solicitor Roddy Boag told Dumbarton Sheriff Court his client accepted they were “very bad charges”.

He said: “He is going to be disqualified for a significant time and he accepts that. He does have this difficulty which has recently resulted in an operation. Your Lordship’s choice is very limited today.”

Sheriff Maxwell Hendry said he considered sending Kenney, 54, to prison and predicted any further crimes and he would be jailed.

As well as a three-year roads ban, Kenney will have to resist the extended test to get a licence again. He was also fined £300 and ordered to carry out 200 hours of unpaid work within nine months.
