KFC in Dumbarton has been forced to close due to the company running out of chicken.

The fast-food restaurant at St James Retail Park is one of hundreds of outlets up and down the UK that have been forced to shut due to teething problems after KFC brought a new delivery partner onboard.

A source confirmed to the Reporter the restaurant had closed due to "a supply shortage".

KFC has about 900 UK restaurants, with more than 80% run by franchisees.

A KFC spokesman said: “We’ve set up a page on our website –kfc.co.uk/crossed-the-road – so our fans can check where their nearest open restaurant is, and we’re updating this as regularly as we can.

"Our teams are working flat out all hours to get the rest back up and running as soon as possible – but it’s too early to say how long it will take to clear the backlog.”

A tweet issued earlier by the company stated:

To see a list of KFC restaurants still up and running visit kfc.co.uk/crossed-the-road.
