It was Clydebank's day as they took first and third spots in West Dunbartonshire's basketball championships.

Six schools descended on Clydebank Leisure Centre recently for the finals as part of the Active Schools programme.

Our Lady of Loretto, Goldenhill, St Kessok's, Christie Park, St Michael's and Lennox primaries were chosen after three qualifiers in Clydebank, Dumbarton and the Vale of Leven.

The basketball is part of the West Dunbartonshire Schools Games and saw P5 boys and girls take part.

About 150 parents turned out to show their support at the recent finals, along with two players from the Glasgow Rocks basketball team: Gareth Murray and Jonny Bunyan. They spoke about their careers and gave away tickets to see the Rocks.

Provost William Hendrie presented the shield to Our Lady of Loretto Primary, with St Michael's second and Goldenhill third.

Louise Morrison, of Active Schools, said: "The school games are going really well. We've had a good uptake from all the schools. We have had football, rugby, golf and netball leagues running. Dodgeball and rugby and tennis are coming up.

"Now in its third year, the schools seem to have really bought into it. We're really pleased."
