A SHERIFF told a Silverton woman she had no control of her vehicle when she was caught driving at 10am while six times the legal alcohol limit.

Mary McGillen appeared in the dock at Dumbarton Sheriff Court on February 14 for sentencing after pleading guilty to driving along Glasgow Road at its junction with High Street on January 15.

McGillen, of Crosslet Road, had 133 microgrammes of alcohol in her breath; the limit is 22 microgrammes.

Depute fiscal Sarah Healing told the court police had received an anonymous tip the 57-year-old was driving while drunk around 10am.

McGillen’s solicitor Scott Adair said his client had put herself under a lot of stress but had since stopped drinking.

He asked the court to dispose of McGillen’s case by way of a financial penalty, adding: “Her and her husband are relatively comfortable in terms of pensions and his income.”

Sheriff William Gallacher told McGillen: “The fact that you appear in court at this age is no doubt a source of embarrassment and shame to you and so it should be.

“You could’ve caused great harm to others and yourself. You had no control of this vehicle. However, you have done the right things on your own.”

McGillen was fined £750 and was disqualified from driving for two years.
