Families across Dumbarton and the Vale flocked to their local libraries over the Easter holidays to take part in arts and crafts events.

The activities, arranged especially for the Easter break, brought together young and old, offering something for everyone.

Dumbarton Library offered the chance for children to have their faces painted – with the bookworm setting providing the perfect place to take on the guise of a favourite character.

There was also an educational element to the fun, with a seed planting session helping little ones to develop their green fingers.

Over in Alexandria Library creativity ran wild, with youngsters painting and colouring away to their hearts’ content.

And the events helped to promote the importance of libraries as a key part of the community.

“We’ve had a series of events running over the school holidays," a spokesperson for West Dunbartonshire Libraries told the Reporter.

“It’s to give families something to do, and the events can be for a variety of age ranges.

“The feedback we got is that people really enjoyed themselves, and the events were well attended.

“The library is a safe environment for them to be in, and it promotes literacy as well.

"It helps children to grow up knowing the library is a fun place to be in.

"It’s a chance to promote what’s close to our hearts, which is literacy and reading.”
