A PAINTER and decorator, who had injured himself and ran onto the street, was lifted by police as he was on a curfew not to leave his home.

Prosecutor Ian Meacock described the bizarre incident to Sheriff William Gallacher at Dumbarton Sheriff Court last week.

The fiscal depute said Mark Kelly, 25, was at home in Alclutha Avenue, Dumbarton, on February 21 this year, when he cut himself.

The court heard how he sent a text message to his girlfriend telling her how he loved her. He ran onto the street and was apprehended by police nearby.

Kelly had been put on bail on January 15 with a condition he has no contact with his girlfriend and remain at home each evening from 7pm until 7am.

On February 21 he contacted the woman, and also failed to adhere to an undertaking and didn’t turn up at court on March 7. He breached bail further by being outside of the house on the same day at 1.30am.

Defence lawyer Brian McGuire said: “Possibly having spent some time in custody may be punishment enough.”

Sheriff Gallacher told Kelly: “In all the circumstances you are admonished.”
