Dumbarton and Vale’s young people can share their views on education through a new website, launched by the Scottish Government.

The youngest members of Development the Young Workforce (DYW) Glasgow and DYW West have teamed up to take part in the Scottish Government’s Year of Young People (YoYP) programme – a key objective of which is to give young people a chance to influence decisions which affect their life.

The two regional DYW groups are inviting people between seven and 26 years old to use the new website to share their ideas and contribute to a bank of thoughts, by simply completing the sentence: ‘Education should be…’.

Young people will then be able to view other contributions and will have the opportunity to expand on their ideas.

In September, small focus groups of young people will then be invited to investigate solutions and offer their thoughts on how the most popular suggestions could be achieved, before the findings are presented to key influencers of education in Scotland at an event later in the year.

Craig Martin, Chair of DYW Glasgow and Chair of the Glasgow Employer Board, commented, “We’re delighted to be supporting the Year of Young People. The younger members of DYW Glasgow and DYW West have created this fantastic platform for young people to express their opinion on what education should look like in Scotland.

“We encourage teachers, lecturers, employers and training providers to spread the word and encourage young people to get involved.

“We look forward to sharing the results of this project.”
