Little bookworms will be in their element over the next few days as a host of free family events across the country mark Bookbug Week.

Local libraries and community venues will be holding sessions from May 14 to 20, inviting families with babies and young children to join in with a range of fun story, song and rhyme activities.

A project run by the Scottish Book Trust – a national charity that inspires people to read and write – this year’s theme is ‘Bookbug’s Friends’.

In Dumbarton, Dumbarton Library at Strathleven Place will be hosting their Bookbug session for the area on Saturday, May 19. The reading adventure will begin at 10.30am and run until 11am, and is suitable for zero- to five-year-olds.

For those who are unable to make it to the session, the Scottish Book Trust will be running special competitions throughout the week on their website and Facebook page.

Parents can also sign up to stream a special Bookbug Week broadcast featuring award-winning author and illustrator Ross Collins, who will be sharing his book ‘There’s a Bear on my Chair.’
