A special event highlighting the excellent care and support available to adults with learning disabilities in West Dunbartonshire was held on Friday to mark National Learning Disability Week.

The event, organised by West Dunbartonshire’s Health and Social Care Partnership (WDHSCP) welcomed service users, carers, families and community groups to Clydebank Town Hall on Tuesday to showcase activities and supports available to those with a learning disability, and their carers. WDHSCP welcomed to the event many partnership organisations who work with the Council to provide care and services for adults with disabilities.

The day also gave families and carers the opportunity to share good practice and also their common goal of delivering first-class services.

The day will also reinforced the commitment to improving and supporting the health and wellbeing of people with learning disabilities to support and encourage independence. Along with discussing services available to residents, the event also included dancing, leisure activities, first aid and personal massage. The Learning Disability Services provides essential services to more than 500 adults in West Dunbartonshire and encourages residents to live independently with support.

Councillor Marie McNair, Chair of West Dunbartonshire Health and Social Care Partnership, said: “This event was a great opportunity to showcase the great services being delivered by the team. I was delighted to attend the information day and hear some inspiring stories of how our dedicated staff have helped transform the lives of our residents and their families. Our carers are committed to ensuring the needs and choices of the people they care for and their families are listened to and through their support they encourage people to live as independently as possible.”
