A TEAM of talented Highland dancers from Jamestown will be flying the flag for Scotland when they take part in an international festival in France this week.

Members of the Sandra Lees School of Dance will jet out to Argenteuil to take part in the event at the end of the month.

The Parisian suburb is twinned with Clydebank, and The Agora Association celebrate this link by hosting the festival each year.

Dancers from Scotland, Romania, Italy, Germany, and Portugal, are invited to come together for the “Un Gala de Danses Modernes des Villes Jumelees”.

The team, consisting of Leah Aitken, 10, Skye Austin, 10, Hannah Cameron, 10, Zoe Colraine, 13, Caitlin Marsh, 11, Mirren McGlashan, 11, and Chloe McIntyre, 10 have been preparing for their international performance with much excitement.

And proud teachers Sandra Lees and Margo Lusk will support the girls as they showcase highland dance in a trio of specially choreographed routines.

Sandra told the Reporter: “We are delighted to perform in Argenteuil this year and our young team will be able to enjoy a fantastic dancing experience.

“For some of them this will be their first experience of this event, but they are all dedicated dancers with a huge commitment to highland dancing and are a delight to work with.”

“A lot of them have been dancing from around the age of four or five.

“The girls are really, really excited, especially those of them doing this for the first time and have never done anything like this before.

“They’re just really looking forward to the trip with their friends. They’re all really good friends and very supportive of each other.

“They have some beautiful costumes as well.”

This year’s showcase will be taking place on Saturday, May 28, at the Salle Jean Vilar Festival Hall.

Sandra has provided dancers on many occasions and proud to support the event showcasing highland dancing on a European stage.
