Police Scotland has received “numerous” phone calls regarding an alleged illegal travellers’ encampment, which is said to be set up in Levengrove Park.

Sergeant Brian Simpson of Dumbarton police, who is also travellers liaison officer, has attended and spoken with the group, and has called for respect from both the travellers and members of the public.

Sgt Simpson said: “The travellers are regulars to this area and now that they are here they have been asked to respect the surrounding area and the people frequenting the park.

“That said, I would ask that members of the public, whilst some may not be happy at the travellers presence, respect them and their culture as well. I have liaised with West Dunbartonshire Council, who own the land, and they are making efforts to have them moved off the land.”
