AN ALEXANDRIA woman was so embarrassed she couldn’t view the camera footage of her slapping her partner with her handbag in a busy town centre, which was described by her lawyer as being “almost a comedy act”.

Red-faced Siobhan Dunn pleaded guilty at Dumbarton Sheriff Court on Friday of assaulting her partner, with both of them said to be drunk at the time.

Dunn, 35, of Braehead, assaulted her partner, on Dumbarton’s High Street, on February 26.

The town’s sheriff court heard on Friday how she repeatedly punched him on the head and struck him on the body with her handbag.

Prosecutor Martina McGuigan told the court: “She had been in a relationship with him at the time.

“The whole incident was captured on CCTV by the cameras on High Street.

“It happened at around 5.30pm, and both Dunn and her partner appeared to be intoxicated at the time.

“The accused collapsed to the ground and was attended to.

“When she stood up she punched her partner to the right side of his head and then walked away.

“A short time later she came back and hit him on the body with her handbag.

“They continued to walk up High Street having a conversation before more punches were thrown by the accused. She fell over as police arrived.”

Defence lawyer Tom Brown said: “I had a copy of the footage of the whole incident on CCTV.

“It was in my office and I invited Ms Dunn to view it, but she couldn’t look at it she was so embarrassed.

“To be honest it was almost a comedy act. I acted for her father for many years, who also had a drink problem.”

Sheriff John Hamilton told Dunn, formerly of Graham Road, Dumbarton: “Your behaviour was embarrassing.

“I am going to put you on a community payback order for 12 months, which will include supervision.

“Take the support that they give you and address your drink problem. Get it under control.”
