A CRAZED Alexandria biker drove a motorcycle at more than twice the speed limit through the Lomondgate roundabout.

Keiran Hepburn, 22, of Braehead, pleaded guilty at Dumbarton Sheriff Court last Wednesday to careless driving, after the Crown reduced the original charge from dangerous driving.

It was his second conviction for careless driving in the past four years.

Prosecutor Emma Thomson told the court the incident happened on September 21, 2017, and began on the A813 between Lomondgate roundabout and the junction with the A82.

Ms Thomson said: “He drove a motorcycle carelessly in speeds in excess of 60 miles per hour in 30 and 40 mph zones. He failed to slow down at roundabouts.

“He also drove at speed in residential areas, side streets and farm roads.

“It happened at 9.40pm. Police in a marked vehicle activated their blue light and had to drive at speeds of up to 60 miles per hour in pursuit before he pulled over.

“Some of the streets the motorcycle was being driven through were unlit.

“He used little or no brakes at all when he went through roundabouts.”

Defence lawyer Michael Murphy said: “He had a provisional licence at the time and had made an application for a full licence. He works long and unsociable hours as a kitchen porter and relies on his bike to get him to and from work.

"When police activated their blue light he pulled over immediately. He was issued with a fixed penalty by the police, and went with his mother to a police station to pay it, but they wouldn’t accept it as he had no full driving licence.”

Sheriff John Hamilton was told that Hepburn had previously been banned for seven months in September 2014 for careless driving on a motorcycle.

The sheriff told Hepburn: “I’m not impressed. This is your second conviction for careless driving, and you don’t even have a licence.

“I won’t disqualify you, but only just.

Hepburn was fined £700 and had nine points put on his licence.
