A DEDICATED teenager has met with local officers at Dumbarton police station to mark the end of three years as a Police Scotland Youth Volunteer.

Representatives of the force welcomed Conor McPhail, aged 17, who is one of the original members of the Dumbarton PSYV group.

Having started with the volunteers back in September 2015, Conor will be the first of the original group to turn 18 on July 15.

The teen visited the station with his parents on Friday, June 22, where he was presented with a certificate of achievement.

And his birthday marks a milestone for his PSYV days, signifying the time for him to move on from his duties and embark on the next stages of his career.

He currently attends the Vale of Leven Academy and will be starting college in September where he will undertake a sports-related course.

During his time with the group, Conor has completed 160 hours of volunteering and is a keen bagpiper – a talent that he has also managed to bring into his PYSV service.

He has piped for PSYV at numerous events as well as entertaining residents at local care homes.

Group coordinator Constable Craig Brown said: “I would like to congratulate Conor on this fantastic achievement and thank him for all his hard work and dedication over the past three years.

“He is an extremely valued member of the group and will be missed by everyone.

“I’m sure his PSYV experience will have equipped him with lots of skills he can carry with him during this next stage of his development.

“We all wish Conor all the best in the future.”

And the farewell events aren’t’ over yet, with the PSYV group also planning to host a leaving party for Conor at the end of the month.

The PSYV group exists to strengthen the relationship between the police and young people, promoting a practical understanding of policing through volunteering.

The programme is open to all young people aged 13-17.

Anyone interested in following in Conor’s footsteps and becoming a youth or adult volunteer can visit the PSYV recruitment page for more information.
