AN ALEXANDRIA drug dealer has been caged for 14 months and banned from driving after leading police on a high speed car chase along a pavement.

Sarah McCormick, 39, pleaded guilty to all the charges she faced when she appeared at Dumbarton Sheriff Court last Tuesday.

The court heard McCormick, currently an inmate at Cornton Vale prison, committed the offences on May 23, 2018, at Glebe Gardens and Main Street, Bonhill.

She drove a car dangerously, collided with a parked car and then led police on a high speed car chase, carrying out a U-turn and causing her car to mount a pavement.

Prosecutor Martina McGuigan then told how McCormick threw out packages of controlled drugs from the window of the car.

McCormick admitted being concerned in the supply of heroin to others.

Defence lawyer Pat Campbell said: “It is naive to suggest that she wouldn’t comply with a community based disposal. She does not appear as a first offender.

“She is a single mum and does not have her troubles to seek. She is not unrealistic about the possible outcome. She has her own tenancy and would comply with a restriction of liberty [tagging] order.”

Sheriff William Gallacher told McCormick: “I have some hesitation in giving any credence to anything you say after what you have told social workers.

“On May 16 you were charged with the transfer of drugs and released on bail. One week later you are concerned in the supply of heroin. I would fail in my public duty if I were not to send you to prison.”

In addition McCormick was banned from driving for one year and ordered to resit her driving test.

The Crown also served a Proceeds of Crime order on McCormick, and a hearing to consider that matter further was set for October 4 at Dumbarton Sheriff Court.
