West Dunbartonshire police have been cracking down on drink driving over the summer months as part of a seasonal campaign.

Police officers in the Argyll and West Dunbartonshire Division have been supporting Police Scotland’s ‘Summer Drink Drive Campaign’ over the last two weeks.

The campaign involves officers conducting intelligence-led high visibility patrols and roadside checks to detect those driving under the influence of drink or drugs, including looking out for early morning motorists that may still be under the influence from the night before.

Since it started on Friday, June 29, seven men aged between 17 and 70 have been arrested for allegedly driving whilst under the influence of alcohol at locations across the region.

West Dunbartonshire area commander Chief Inspector Scott Carlin said:

“It is concerning that people still find it acceptable to get behind the wheel of a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol.

"If you are in any doubt that you may be over the limit then don’t risk it - don’t drink and drive.”
