Beer fans will get their chance to sample a taste of offerings from Dumbarton’s brand new brewery for the very first time this week.

With a mission to bring beer production back to the town, The Lennox Brewery is the realisation of a plan for IT professionals Andrew Jarvis and Iain McLaren, who are uniting a love of beer with the heritage of the area in their products.

The pair opened up their brewery, located near Dumbarton Central station, earlier this year, and since then have been working hard to perfect a range of beers.

And the fruits of their labour will finally be on offer to taste at a special launch event this Friday at the Antartex Shopping Village, Alexandria.

Iain, who is also a Dumbarton councillor, said: “We’re taking a range of beers to our launch event - everything from a light pilsner to dark stouts, so there should be something for everyone.

“We’re really happy that we can finally launch our brand and our beers. It’s taken us slightly longer than we’d imagined, but all-in-all it’s gone smoothly.

“It’s a great feeling to finally be able to let people try our flavours, and we’re really excited to find out what people think."

Iain explained the brewing process has been a learning curve, with plenty of opportunities to experiment along the way.

“We’ve had the chance to experiment with flavours, and really put some creativity into the beers.

“Getting to the bottling stage has been reasonably straightforward; there was a bit of admin work to overcome, but in the end it all went really smoothly.”

With taste-buds ignited, Iain says they aim to have the first batches out on sale towards the end of the month, with plans to scale up over the next 12 months.

And the brewery plans to be as environmentally friendly as possible within the brewing and production process.

Iain said: “We’re trying to use as many ecologically sound methods as possible, including using paper labels rather than plastic ones.

“We’ve got some good ideas about re-using the by-products as well.”

The launch night runs from 5.30pm to 7.30pm on July 20 at Alexandria’s Shopping Village, Alexandria. Tickets cost £1; call 01389 752 393 to book.
