The Italian runways and icons of Vogue had nothing on the young pupils of Bonhill Primary School recently, as they signed off the school year with a fashion show with a twist.

On trend with their learning all about how to help protect the planet, the youngsters were required to design their own outfits - crafted completely from recyclable materials.

And they didn’t disappoint, with pupils from all classes showing off their incredible fashion-forward creations to their fellow classmates with a strut down the catwalk on June 22.

The crowd went wild as the contestants really got into character, posing and pouting to flaunt their home-made garments.

Highlights included newspaper midi skirts, paper wings, biodegradable capes and a fantastic replica outfit of the Minecraft Creeper robot, fashioned from cardboard and paper.

Awards and certificates were handed out to the contestants, and winners were chosen for each year group.

The brilliant spectacle was all organised by the school’s eco-committee, which includes pupils from P1 up to P7. And they really ran the show to make sure everything went like clockwork.

The recycle fashion event has become a firm favourite with the children, with this year being the sixth occasion for the annual event.

And it’s not just great fun - it really gets them thinking about the environment and what we can do to keep it safe.
