Around two thousand people had a cracking day out at Dumbarton Police Station on Saturday at the local cops’ free annual open day.

Families delighted in the chance to meet heroes from the region’s emergency services in person, learning all about the vital work they do.

Youngsters dreaming of becoming police officers and firefighters when they grow up were in their element, getting to explore various emergency vehicles.

The hard-working four-legged members of the police dogs and horses were also in attendance to meet the public.

A multitude of entertaining activities were on offer, with stalls manned by the Scottish Fire Service, who put on a display warning of the danger of chip pan fires, NHS car and motorbike paramedics, the road traffic police, the Police Scotland mountain rescue team and Trossachs Search and rescue among many others.

And the popular DJ SKapade of SKapade Studios took to the decks to provide musical entertainment.

This year’s event was in aid of ‘The Year of Young People’, raising money for local charities CHAS and Y Sort It.

A raffle offering a huge array of prizes from local businesses, restaurants and tourist attractions meant there were plenty of treats on offer for the adults in attendance ,as well as the kids.

The cash raised through sales on the day is still ongoing, with the full total set to be announced later this week.

Inspector Roddy McNeill, from Dumbarton police station, said: “Everybody attending and those manning the stalls and events had a great day, with lots of happy children.”
