Osaka Kwai Judo Club hosted another successful annual summer camp last month from July 23 to July 26 at the Alexandria Community Centre in Dumbarton.

The camp, only made possible by volunteer coaches taking annual leave from their work, welcomed 34 young Judoka’s over three days with kids ranging from five years old to 15-years-old.

As well as brushing up on their Judo skills and techniques, the children also took part in a number of fun activities and games from Judo sumo to a good old fashioned tug of war.

The children were split into two groups of 17 for a fantastic week of judo which left coaches Jim Robertson, John Robertson, Martin Granger and trainee coach Kirsty Lyon with the difficult decision of selecting their players of the week.

Robyn Smith, 8, and Arran Graham, 9, were awarded the trophies this year but the other kids did not leave empty handed with everyone awarded a medal, certificate and a gift.

Osaka Kwai now have a number of competitions lined up for the remainder of the year, starting in Inverness on September 22. They then travel to Wishaw on October 13 followed by a trip to Larkhall on October 20 and then Livingston on October 23 before one of the main competitions of the year, Scotland’s National Championships, gets underway at the Emirates Arena on November 11 where the club’s elite Judoka’s get the chance to prove themselves against some of Scotland’s best.
