Dumbarton residents who are not afraid of the dark are being urged to take part in a survey which promises to be a real hoot.
A leading bird organisation is seeking volunteers to check the location of tawny owls to see where they commonly occur.
But it’s not just creepy graveyards or dusty ruins where they are likely to be found, as they also inhabit woodland throughout the area.
The British Trust for Ornithology (BTO) wants volunteers to go out after sunset and note where they are hooting.
The information returned to the organisation’s national tawny owl survey will help build a picture of how the birds are faring.
