A group of bikers travelling across Scotland will end their journey in Dumbarton as they commemorate the end the First World War and raise money for charity.

The Widows Sons Scotland, a motorcycle association whose members are Freemasons, plan to visit 31 war monuments throughout the country, to lay wreaths and pay their respects on the centenary year of the end of the Great War, whilst also raising £60,000 for armed forces charity Poppyscotland.

The group commenced their tour from Edinburgh City Chambers this past weekend, and will stop at cenotaphs and other memorials, such as Dryburgh Abbey, Kirkwall in Orkney, and Stirling Castle, on each of the following eight weekends, before finishing up in Dumbarton on Saturday, September 29 around 2.45pm.

Gordon Michie, head of fundraising at Poppyscotland, said: “This is a terrific gesture from the Grand Lodge of Scotland and their motorcycle association Widows Sons Scotland, and one that is very much appreciated.

“These services will make a real difference to the lives of the Armed Forces community.”

Each stop will include a family fun event in which community members are welcome to participate.

Charles Iain Robert Wolrige Gordon, Grand Master Mason of the Grand Lodge of Scotland, added: “We are tremendously proud to be raising money for Poppyscotland by the Widows Sons Scotland touring the country.

“It is an opportunity to honour both the invaluable contribution of our Armed Forces and the bravery of our veterans and serving men and women. We are delighted to contribute to an excellent charity to facilitate its much-needed work.

“It’s also a fun day out for local communities to get involved in, while contributing to a worthy cause.”

The Widows Sons are expected to arrive in Dumbarton on September 29 at around 2.45pm, with activities going on until they depart at 4pm.
