HEALTH and social care bosses say they are expecting opposition to plans for the NHS’s future in West Dunbartonshire.

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde approved a “transformational plan” at the end of June with more than 200 pages and the word “change” almost 200 times.

HSCP chairman Allan Macleod told his board meeting last week they need detail on the plan before they can try to influence it.

He said: “This is a major piece of work. It’s a vision of how we move forward. The next steps will begin to put flesh on what the change means.

“There will be local impact but that can be positve, or ... well, it can be positive. There’s a degree of urgency from the health board.”

Councillor Marie McNair said: “It will not come without some opposition. We need to get engagement right.”

Mr Macleod added: “We are moving into the options stage and that’s where things become a bit more real and there will be some issues for communities.”

Bailie Denis Agnew said: “Health care is reactive. We are trying to be proactive. That’s the challenge.”

The HSCP board decided to make the “moving forward together” plan a standing item for future meetings with possible extra debates to be held.
