DUMBARTON will be the epicentre of this year’s Doors Open Days festival in West Dunbartonshire later this week.
With a packed programme filled with places to visit from Loch Lomond to Bowling, the event will see venues in West Dunbartonshire join thousands across the country in celebrating heritage and the built environment by offering free access on Friday and Saturday.
And several of the Doors Open Day venues, such as Dumbarton’s community fire station and library, are within easy walking distance of Dumbarton town centre.
Coordinated nationally by the Scottish Civic Trust, this year’s festival includes a selection of well known tourist attractions such as the Maid of the Loch (pictured) paddle steamer on Loch Lomond, Dumbarton Central railway station, and several of the town’s churches.
Outdoor venues are also featured, with the gardens at the Robin House children’s hospice in Balloch recommended as a place to admire the modern architecture of the CHAS facility, and guided trail walks on offer at Levengrove Park and along the River Leven.
A selection of religious venues will also be taking part.
