TWO young schoolgirls were hurt after steel wire was allegedly strung across a path in Bonhill.

A teenage boy has since been arrested in connection with the incident on August 27.

The girls, aged 11 and 12, were walking near Elmbank Drive at around 8.55pm when they collided with a metal wire that had been tied across the lane.

Cops confirmed both girls suffered minor injuries, with one striking her head on the ground.

Following the incident, the mum of one of the girls claimed on social media that her daughter had become entangled in a steel wire, which had been draped across the path at neck height while they were on their way to Dalmonach Park.

She said the schoolgirl was taken to hospital, and added: “Thankfully she’ll be OK. She has a mild head injury, bruising and swelling round her throat, and soft tissue damage to her elbow. It could have been so much worse.”

Cops have charged a 13-year-old boy with alleged culpable and reckless conduct.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “This is an incident which could have had far more serious consequences and thankfully the injuries were minor in nature.”
