Musicians have taken matters into their own hands and organised a replacement gig after a new music festival due to take place this weekend was cancelled.

Last week, organisers of Loch Lomond Live, which had former Runrig frontman Donnie Monro and Highland pop band Tide Lines as headline acts, pulled the plug on the two-day event.

The announcement came just days after they said that “due to unforeseen circumstances” they were unable to hold the festival at the planned venue, the Show Field in Drymen, and pledged to announce details of a replacement venue.

Now, however, in the wake of the cancellation, alternative-blues musician Dave Arcari from Drymen and West Dunbartonshire band Have Mercy Las Vegas, who had both been due to perform, are putting on their own event – Loch Lomond Revived.

Free acoustic sessions featuring a range of artists will be held in The Drymen Inn, The Clachan, The Winnock and The Buchanan Arms on Saturday afternoon until 6pm before a ticketed evening concert in the Winnock Hotel featuring Dave and Have Mercy Las Vegas.

The fun will then continue on Sunday at the Drymen Inn, with further musicians lined up to perform.

Dave, who had been looking forward to playing locally before jetting off to perform for audiences in more than 20 shows in the United States, said: “It’s all a bit last minute, but when Stephen (Scott, from Have Mercy Las Vegas) suggested we work together to pull something off I thought it was a great idea – especially as a lot of people have booked accommodation in the area.

“It means there’s something for them – and disappointed locals – if they still want to hear some live music. It’s on a much smaller scale, of course, but it’s something.

“Stephen has put in so much work pulling it all together and we’d never have done it without the support of the venues in Drymen.”

In a post on Facebook last Wednesday, Loch Lomond Live’s organisers said: “Full refunds are available from the point of purchase. We apologise for any inconvenience caused.”

The festival’s Twitter account and Facebook page now appear to have been deleted.

Councillor Iain Mclaren added: “I am very disappointed that Loch Lomond Live has been cancelled. It was shaping up to be a great festival.”

The venue for the Loch Lomond Revived evening concert has a limited capacity of just 150. Tickets are priced at £10 and are available from the Winnock from today (September 17).
