A 32-YEAR-OLD thug faces a lengthy jail sentence after admitting two sustained and humiliating attacks on two pregnant partners – a decade apart.

Shaun Sharkey pleaded guilty just minutes before he was due to go on trial in front of a jury at Dumbarton Sheriff Court last Monday.

Some of the offences took place over a lengthy period at his former partner’s homes in Balloch and Alexandria

He urinated on her, squeezed her throat until she fell unconscious, and denied her access to food.

Prosecutor Kevin Doherty told the court on various occasions between July 1, 2006 and March 31, 2009, at various houses in Glasgow, including a public house in the city, Sharkey assaulted his former partner, including times when she was pregnant.

Sharkey was just 20 years old at the time.

He repeatedly struck her on the head, pinned her to the ground, sat astride her, repeatedly held her body, punched and kicked her on the head and body and urinated on her body and clothing.

Sharkey then repeatedly knocked her to the ground, seized her by the hair and repeatedly put his hands around her throat to restrict her breathing, whereby she lost consciousness.

The brutality continued when he repeatedly denied her access to food, all to her severe injury and permanent impairment. He also repeatedly stole money from her.

Six years later, the court heard how he carried out an almost carbon copy of the offences on another former partner.

Mr Doherty told the court that on various occasions between January 1, 2014, and May 11, 2017, at houses in Balloch, Alexandria and at his home at Carbisdale Street, Glasgow, Sharkey assaulted his new partner, again while she was pregnant.

He admitted repeatedly punching and kicking her on the head and body, repeatedly knocking her to the ground, seizing her by the hair and repeatedly putting his hands around her throat and compressing it, restricting her breathing.

He repeatedly pinched and poked her on the face and body, struck her on the head with a phone, which caused her to fall to the ground.

Sharkey then wrapped the telephone wire around her body and repeatedly kicked and struck her with his knee on the stomach and back causing her to lose consciousness. He also repeatedly stole money from her.

He was on bail at the time, bail having been imposed on him on August 3, 2015, at Glasgow Sheriff Court.

Sheriff William Gallacher revoked Sharkey’s bail this week and remanded him in custody to await sentencing next month after calling for a full criminal justice social work background report.

Sharkey will be sentenced next month and faces the possibility of being remitted to the High Court for sentence.
