An Our Lady and St Patrick’s High pupil was part of the Scotland team who last week made the elite round stage of qualification for the UEFA European Women’s Under 17s Championships.
Despite being only 15 years old, Rebecca McAllister, pictured right, was selected for the U17s ahead of the squad’s trip to Poland to face Lithuania, Slovakia and the hosts in the group qualifying games.
The midfielder started and played 77 minutes as the Scots saw off Lithuania 2-1 in their opening encounter at Stadion Miejski im. Kazimierza Deyny in Gdański.
She then made her second start as Pauline MacDonald’s side were held to a 0-0 draw with Slovakia in Malbork, before coming on as a sub at the same venue, in a 3-0 loss to Poland.
Despite defeat in their final match, Scotland had done enough previously to come second in the group and make it through.
The draw for the elite round will take place on November 23 ahead of the finals in Bulgaria next May.
Prior to linking up with the Scotland squad, Rebecca was named the area’s Active Schools “Young Sports Star of the Month” for October, along with team-mate Rosie McQuillan who attends St Peter the Apostle High in Clydebank.
Hazel Redford and Ian McMurray, curriculum leaders for health and wellbeing at OLSP and St Peter’s respectively, said: “They thoroughly deserve to have been selected for the squad.”
