Haldane Youth Services have been trick or treating kids to a range of wickedly good Halloween activities over the holiday period.

As part of a fun-packed programme dubbed 'monster madness', the organisation has been running breakfast clubs from 9.30am to 11am in the morning with a host of special activities lined up for the afternoons.

HYS promotes healthy eating and a healthy lifestyle, but an exception was made last Wednesday as children made their very own candy apples.

The kids then had the opportunity to learn from Jade MacKenzie, an older sibling of one of the young people, who came along to take an extra special class.

Jade previously studied make-up artistry and special effects at West of Scotland College and is currently doing an HNC in fashion make-up, as well as running her own make-up business.

Using her in depth experience, she showed the kids how to make fake open wounds and bruising - perfect for creating that terrifying look on Halloween.

The children were then treated to a step- by-step face-painting demo and had a fantastic afternoon practising their new-found skills one each other with some pretty spooktacular results.

In keeping with the Halloween theme, the charity is also hosting a family Halloween part this Saturday night, but tickets are now sold out.

Sharon McMillan, project coordinator at Haldane Youth Services, said: "The kids come along for a healthy breakfast in the morning and activities. This week we have called it monster madness with Halloween coming up.

"We have been doing Halloween arts and crafts and we have been making paper pumpkins and spiders in boxes. We encourage the young people who attended to work with the other young people and do team-building. They were all helping each other with the make-up and face-painting and there was lots of peer support going on, which was great to see."
