Osaka Kwai Judo Club picked up an impressive seven medals at the Hibari Kan Junior Open Competition at the Larkhall Leisure Centre last weekend.

The club is competing in a number of tournaments in the build up to the Scottish National Championships in November and this latest success is the confidence boost the youngsters needed.

Under the guidance of Martin Granger, all the children excelled in a tough competition with the coach singling out eight-year-old Robyn Smith who won an excellent bronze medal in her very first competition.

Freya Millar, 11, fought her way to gold while her sister Darcy, also 11, earned a silver.

Joe Butler, Liam Foy, Arran Graham and Skye Kane all joined Robyn as they walked away with well-deserved bronze medals.

Osaka coach John Robertson said: “It takes a lot of courage to go and fight - especially when there is a crowd watching and cheering. This was a great experience for the club with some great results. I’m very proud of them all.”
