Mummers Theatre Group will be taking to the stage at Denny Civic Theatre this week to perform the cult classic Little Shop of Horrors.

The horror comedy rock musical tells the tale of sweet, considerate Seymour Krelborn, a botanical genius working in a struggling flower shop, who discovers an unusual and previously unknown breed of plant, which needs blood to survive.

The growing plant, named Audrey II, attracts a great deal of attention, but can Seymour’s sudden fame and success finally help him win the heart of colleague Audrey and make it out of run-down neighbourhood Skid Row? Or will stardom be darker and bloodier than he thought?

Lucky theatre-lovers in Dumbarton have the chance to find out this week during the show, which runs for three nights and stars William Bruce as Seymour and seasoned performer and RSAMD graduate Carrie Connor as Audrey.

Club president Paul Imrie told the Reporter: “It is a very diverse cast with actors from age 16 up to 55 years old.

“William is the youngest and in his first principal role with the club. He is a regular with the Clydebank Musical Society and has risen to the occasion nicely and is going to impress.

“It is basically the same script (as the original production by the WPA Theatre in New York) with some great songs in there and some more new music as well.

“A trio of singers will be narrating the story. Some of the characters have changed to add our own wee twist.”

Last year the group had a successful run of 9 to 5, the Dolly Parton musical, at Clydebank Town Hall.

And Paul said Little Shop of Horrors promises to be another excellent production, with tickets already selling well.

He added: “Rehearsals are intense, but they are going very well. A lot of hard work has gone into the production.

“I would encourage everyone to come along, enjoy a fantastic night with local talent and support the local theatre arts.

“And all for the minimum price of £10 for a live event which is cheaper than the cinema.”

Little Shop of Horrors runs from November 15-17. Doors open at 7pm each night, with the show beginning at 7.30pm.
