Aldi in Alexandria is looking for a charity to donate all unsold fresh food from its store to on Christmas Eve.

It will do so as part of a festive scheme, which aims to redistribute all surplus fresh food from the supermarket chain’s 775 premises in the UK to charity on December 24.

As part of this, charities and good causes, will be paired with stores, such as the one in Alexandria and can collect perishable products such as fruit, vegetables, fresh meat, fish and bread after the store closes at 6pm.

Charities interested in linking up with the Bank Street shop and a further two of their nearest Aldi stores should contact the company’s corporate responsibility team at christmas@aldi.co.uk before this Sunday, November 18, with the following details to apply: organisation name, charity number, organisation focus (e.g. soup kitchen, food bank), contact details, the postcode of the three nearest Aldi stories.

All charities that apply must be able to collect, store and distribute fresh food. Each store can be partnered with one charity only, and the pairings will be allocated on a first come first served basis.

It is hoped that this year’s scheme will surpass the 450,000 meals donated to more than 300 charities across the UK last Christmas.
