"BRILLIANT from start to finish", "a great night out" and "just as good as a production at the Kings"– those are just three of the reviews from the opening night of Helensburgh Savoy Musical Theatre Group's latest show, which played to packed-out audiences at the Victoria Halls last week.

And if those first-night descriptions are anything to go by, the cast and crew must have been almost drowning in praise after the curtain fell on the final performance of another hugely successful 'Savoy' production on Saturday night.

Weeks of hard work in rehearsals by both cast and backstage crew came together for the five-show run last week as the story first told to the world in the 1980 film starring Jane Fonda, Lily Tomlin and Dolly Parton came to the Helensburgh stage.

Savoy secretary Pauline Forrest told the Advertiser afterwards: "The show was a huge success with the audiences and we'd like to thank those who came along to see it.

"A tremendous amount of work goes into staging a show and the members of Helensburgh Savoy really appreciate all the positive feedback received.

"We'd also like to thank our generous audiences for donating a total of £323 to CHAS."
