A TALENTED musician from Cardross has shared his delight at being nominated for a top traditional music award – and his fate is all down to the voting public.

Fiddler Ryan Young and guitarist Jenn Butterworth have been put forward for the ‘folk band of the year’ prize in the MG Alba Scots Trad Awards, which will take place in Perth in December.

The pair have been playing together across the UK and Europe since first joining forces during Ryan’s final year at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.

Ryan, a former Hermitage Academy pupil, said he was “absolutely stunned” to be nominated and is hoping for more public support to land the gong.

Ryan said: “We’ve both loved traditional music since we were very young and I don’t think either of us could imagine doing anything else!”

The fiddle player has already been named up-and-coming artist of the year in 2016 at the annual event, which has been running since 2003, while his self-titled debut album was shortlisted at the awards last year.

Ryan and Jenn are up against the Paul McKenna Band, Ímar, Daimh and Kinnaris for the much-coveted awards
