THERE is good news for motorists in Dumbarton and the Vale this week after plans to resurface the M898 south of the Erskine Bridge were amended.

Due to concerns relating to trunk road disruption close to the Christmas shopping period, and with the Betfred Cup final between Celtic and Aberdeen taking place at Hampden Park on Sunday, resurfacing works planned on the M898 for this weekend will now be restricted to overnight only.

The works will take place from 8pm to 6am on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, with the road remaining open during the day.

Paul Lynch, Scotland TranServ’s network manager, said: “Under this revised schedule, Scotland TranServ will implement a reduced treatment plan, resurfacing those carriageway defects most urgently in need of repair.

“At a later date more deeply affected parts of the M898 southbound carriageway will require a fuller treatment.

“A weekend closure will be necessary at a time more convenient to stakeholders, communities, businesses and the events calendar.”
