Pupils from nine schools tested themselves physically and rose to the challenge as they took part in the primary three sportshall athletics festival last week.

Schoolkids from St Mary’s, St Martin’s, Gartocharn, Bonhill, Balloch, Lennox, Levenvale, Renton and Levenvale Primary all took part in the non-competitive, participation event, which was organised by Active Schools.

Each school had a team consisting of five boys and five girls and took part in a series of five sportshall athletics events, which included a speed bounce, balance test, chest push, javelin, and a standing long jump.

After these events were completed there were the school relay races involving boys, girls then all of the pupils from each school.

Following the festival, which was held at the Meadow Leisure Centre, Craig Thompson, Active Schools coordinator for the Vale of Leven area told the Reporter: “The event was very well attended and went down well with all the P3 pupils.”

This event was part of West Dunbartonshire School Games and each school attending received 10 participation points, which will go towards the overall school total for the year.

As part of the games, teams from schools in the Vale of Leven area will take part in part in a primary five basketball festival today, while teams from schools in the Dumbarton area will take part in a primary five basketball festival tomorrow at the Meadow Centre.

These are qualifiers with the top two teams from each event going on to compete in the West Dunbartonshire basketball final against the top two teams from Clydebank.
