A Christmas card designed by a Dumbarton schoolgirl will soon be conveying an MP's festive greetings across the country.

Martin Docherty-Hughes, the MP for West Dunbartonshire, has chosen a design by Kerrie Hoben of Aitkenbar Primary as the winner of his 2018 parliamentary Christmas card design competition.

Primary seven pupil Kerrie's design was selected from hundreds of entries submitted by local schools across Dumbarton, the Vale of Leven and Clydebank.

Kerrie joined runners-up Shahna Doherty, a P7 pupil at St Patrick’s, and Evan McKinlay, from Goldenhill Primary's P2 at a prize-giving at the MP's local parliamentary office.

Thanks to generous sponsorship provided by local businesses, the pupils have helped to raise over £1000 for charity.

All proceeds raised are going to support the Leamy Foundation which provides opportunities to improve the lives of disadvantaged young people in West Dunbartonshire.

Mr Docherty-Hughes praised all the pupils who took part in the fundraiser and thanked local businesses for their generous support.

The sponsors of the competition are: Clydebank Co-operative, The Loch Lomond Group, Tersasaki, Sunflower Private Nursery, Auchentoshan Distillery, Campbell & Kennedy and JJR Print & Design.

The MP added: “The creativity of our talented pupils in West Dunbartonshire has shone through once again.

"It was tough picking a winner from the hundreds of fantastic entries, and huge congratulations go to Kerrie, Evan and Shahna for their winning designs.

“All of the pupils who took part should be very proud of their efforts in helping to raise over £1,000 for local charity the Leamy Foundation which does such important work in our communities.

“Kerrie’s winning design has been printed as my official parliamentary Christmas card for 2018 which will be sent to local community groups, businesses and elected representatives.

“The theme of this year’s competition was ‘joy’ and I was delighted to present the winners with their well-deserved prizes. I’d also like to thank all the local businesses who sponsored this year’s competition for their generosity and support.”
