A BALLOCH man is behind two compilations on track to be named Christmas number one and number two in the Scottish album charts.

Gordon Campbell, the owner of The Music Kitchen record label, has produced another successful compilation centred on the imagined favourite tunes of The Broons.

The Broons Gold Collection, is a five-hour long album with a track-listing carefully curated to appeal to those who grew up enjoying the escapades of Scotland’s much-loved fictional family, with songs from the 50s, 60s and 70s such as Only the Lonely by Roy Orbison and The Young Ones by Cliff Richard & The Shadow.

A second album, 100 Scottish Greats, features a variety of Scottish sounds and songs with up tempo tunes, along with ceilidh music and ballad versions of songs such as Ye Banks and Braes.

Former Vale of Leven Academy pupil Gordon now lives in Edinburgh, but returns regularly to Balloch to visit his friends and family in the area.

He said: “From a young age I’ve always loved music. I used to live in Castle Avenue in Balloch and my parents in the 60s had a loft conversion and I have wonderful memories of sneaking up there to listen to my brother’s record collection, Elvis, the Beatles and things like that.

“The track-listing in the Broons album is based on my own memories and I thought if I like it then, hopefully, others can relate to it too."
