There will be more opportunities for children to learn Gaelic in West Dunbartonshire this year - thanks to new funding.
West Dunbartonshire Council has been given £26,205 from Bord na Gaidhlig for GLIAF (Gaelic Language Implementation Fund), which is a significant increase from 2017 to 2108 when the education services received £15,000.
The council has statutory responsibilities to provide Gaelic language education and this funding will make it possible to run a series of Gaelic development activities.
The money will continue to support Gaelic Language teaching at Edinbarnet and Gavinburn Primary Schools.
There’s also a Gaelic Bookbug group at Dalmuir Library and plans to pilot a Gaelic toddler group next year so children can develop their skills in the language from an early age.
Councillor Karen Conaghan, convener of educational services, said: “This funding will go a long way to supporting our pupils and teachers who are keen to learn the Gaelic language.
“It’s great to see pupils learning this additional language.”
