The community in Balloch is still reeling following a shooting on Thursday night.

A 30-year-old was gunned down on Lynn Walk and police are stepping up patrols to reassure residents.

Local MSP Jackie Baillie told the Reporter: “This is clearly a shocking incident in what is a close-knit community.

“I would appeal for anyone with information to come forward to the police.”

Officers have launched a major investigation into what they have deemed a "targeted attack", and have increased high-visibility and uniform patrols in the area to reassure locals.

Police Scotland said the victim was gunned down after being approached by two men in quiet residential street Lynn Walk at around 6.50pm.

Medics described his condition as being serious but stable.

Officers began their hunt for the hitmen by cordoning off most of the street which was described by locals as “quiet”.

Rows of cops appeared to be looking for bullets and other evidence as they scoured every inch of the area. They examined items in gardens including wheelie bins.

Detective Inspector Steve Martin, the officer in charge of the enquiry, said his team believe that the information the force has received so far has led them to conclude the attack was targeted.

He also revealed the gunmen may have used a box-style white van to carry out the assault. They were wearing dark clothing and possibly balaclavas.

DI Martin said: “At this time our information leads me to believe that this may not be a random attack and that the injured man was the intended victim.”

He also appealed for witnesses to come forward as his team begin their hunt for the two men responsible and added: “While you may not think what you witnessed is significant, let the police know and we will be the judge.

“Anyone with information should contact Police Scotland via 101 - quoting reference 3427 of December 20, 2018.
