Members of the emergency services have been carrying out a ‘hot strike’ in Bonhill in a bid to fight back against anti-social behaviour.

There have been a number of deliberate fires set in the area since the New Year.

On January 2, a car was torched while parked outside a home on Broomhill Crescent, leaving the vehicle extensively damaged.

The blue VW Beetle was set ablaze just after midnight, and the flames spread to the house it was sitting outside.

Thankfully, no one was injured in the incident, but

And there were three separate incidents of wheelie bins being set on fire between January 1 and January 3, including one in Braehead and two in O’Hare.

In the wake of these incidents, crews from Dumbarton Fire Station, members of the Community Action Team and members of West Dunbartonshire Police have been engaging with the community on the dangers of this type of behaviour.

Watch Manager and local authority liaison officer Neil Shearer said: “Our crews have been called out to deliberate fires in the Bonhill area recently, and we are actively working with Police Scotland and other partners to engage with communities wherever possible, and raise awareness of the potential dangers of deliberate fires.

“Our firefighters and Community Action Teams also regularly engage with the public to promote safety messages, but we are particularly keen to support the most vulnerable members of our communities.

“We also provide free home fire safety visits, where our firefighters will visit your home to identify any potential hazards.”
