An artistic schoolgirl from Christie Park Primary has been crowned the winner of West Dunbartonshire Council’s road safety calendar competition.

Heidi Regan’s brightly-coloured drawing shows a person beside a zebra crossing on a busy road along with the important message “Stay Bright – Look Left and Right!”.

The primary seven pupil’s design will be used on the 2019 road safety calendar, which is distributed to all schools, council offices, community education centres, libraries and health centres.

In recognition of her winning entry, she was presented with an award and prize recently by councillor Iain McLaren and Catherine Tonner, the council’s road safety coordinator.

Councillor McLaren told the Reporter: “A big congratulations to Heidi, whose design has a great message and is bright and eye catching.

“It will act as a reminder of how to stay safe on the roads when it is displayed across West Dunbartonshire."

Mia Smith and Katie Church, who also attend Christie Park, were runners up in the competition and were presented with a small prize and certificate.

The school's head teacher Laura Penny was joined by two members of the student council to receive the overall road safety calendar competition’s trophy for the school.

Nineteen schools took part in the Road Safety Calendar Competition this year and there were over 600 entries.

All the winning entries will be on display at the libraries throughout West Dunbartonshire in the first few months of 2019.
