Snow arrived in West Dunbartonshire and surrounding areas this morning when the band of wintry weather that we’ve been expecting finally came.

A yellow "be aware" warning of ice is to remain in place across almost the entire nation all morning today (Tuesday, January 22) as cold air moves in behind the rain.

Showers are forecast to continue to bring rain, sleet or snow at times as the day progresses, although significant flurries are expected to remain limited to higher ground.

Temperatures in Glasgow are expected to peak at 3C, with lows of -3C forecast for late Tuesday night into early Wednesday.

West Dunbartonshire Council’s facebook page said yesterday that a yellow weather warning had been issued for the area as possible freezing rain and snow was forecast from 1am on Tuesday morning.

Their gritting team was due to go out last night from 9pm to treat priority routes one and two, then retreating at midnight, with priority footpaths being treated from the start of the shift today (Tuesday, January 22).

Scotland TranServ warned drivers on Twitter this morning: “Oh Snow!! Please #DriveAware this morning. Also a @metoffice YELLOW WEATHER WARNING for #ICE until 11am."

Police Scotland are also advising motorists to travel with extreme caution today because conditions are likely to be very dangerous.

Their facebook page said: "The Met Office has issued a Yellow weather warning and conditions for travel across the majority of the country may be hazardous due to snow and ice and EXTRA CAUTION should be exercised.

"If you are travelling you should ensure you and your vehicle are adequately prepared for the conditions making sure you have sufficient fuel and supplies such as warm clothing, food and water in the event you are delayed for several hours.

"Charge your mobile phone and plan your route as well as alternative routes."
