A SHERIFF has challenged a Cardross man to stay out of trouble for the next eight months.

James Maxwell, 32, of Kirkton Crescent, Cardross, behaved in a threatening or abusive manner by shouting, swearing and acting in an aggressive manner.

He also threw a mobile telephone towards his ex-partner. The incident happened at a house in Beechwood Drive, Alexandria, last December 23.

Prosecutor Kara Watt told Dumbarton Sheriff Court on Friday: “They had been in a relationship for six years and had two children from the relationship.

"He arrived back this day at 4pm having been out overnight. An argument took place which resulted in her contacting her mother to collect the children.

"Her mother overheard the shouting when she was on the phone to her. The shouting continued when she arrived.

"He then threw a mobile phone towards his partner. Police were called and he was arrested, cautioned and charged. He made no reply.”

Defence lawyer Gail Docherty said: “He accepts his behaviour was inappropriate and unacceptable. They have resolved matters and are back together again.”

Sheriff Simon Pender said: “I understand you were under considerable stress at the time. I will give you eight months to show you can be of good behaviour.”

Sentence was deferred until August 27. He was ordained to appear.
